Dr. Sean Marvil is the Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship Faculty at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Marvil specializes in sports medicine, sports-related trauma and arthritis. He has expertise in the surgical procedures and treatment of upper- and lower-extremity injuries and degenerative conditions. In addition, he brings to Taos state of the art, minimally invasive hip arthroplasty, and arthroscopic hip preservation techniques. Dr. Marvil completed his Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at Taos Orthopaedic Institute. It is the ultimate testimony to his ability that he was asked to stay and join the Institute as a partner and Fellowship faculty member. Prior to his fellowship position, he was an orthopaedic surgery resident at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Marvil received his M.D. from St. George’s University School of Medicine, and graduated with honors, with a B.S. degree from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He was a two-time All-American lacrosse player at Valley Forge Military Academy. Dr. Marvil has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is recognized for his award-winning podium presentations in orthopedics and sports medicine. He was also a National Honor Society award winner for academic excellence. His outside interests include riding and building custom motorcycles, fishing and hunting. Excellent. I had reverse shoulder replacement surgery in May of 2019 with Dr. Guttmann in May 2019 with excellent results. This was followed in November 2019 with an accidental elbow fracture and dislocation which Dr. Guttmann sucessfully attended to.. So, as my knee failed I knee where I would get the best care.
As soon as I met Dr. Marvil, I knew that I had made the right decision about letting him fix my knee. He appears to be a kind and confident man and I trusted him immediately. Also his associate, Dr. Lakehomer, was wonderful and so helpful. The whole procedure could not have been better any where else, and I am very pleased.

HTO recommended for my right knee issues and so far the healing process although not painless is going well. I am glad this surgery verses a partial knee was recommended and performed as it feels more natural already even though I'm 3 months post surgery. Dr. Marvil is a great listener and gave the best advice on how to fix my knee issues while considering my age and activity level.

Dr Marvil has done three of my surgeries (both hips and right shoulder). He has done an excellent job. I highly recommend him. He's a very good personal doctor which is a asset. I still need knee replacements in the future and would have Dr Marvil do both of them.

Whenever I am in his office I feel like I have his undivided attention. His diagnoses have been spot on. My only regret is that my surgery did not restore my shoulder to 100%, as I had hoped.
