After graduating from the University of Illinois School of Dentistry in the top 15% of his class, he went into a rotating internship at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky for one year. Here he rotated through all the specialties such as periodontics, oral surgery, fixed and removable prosthodontics, endodontics and orthodontics learning from some of the top solution-oriented specialists in the country. During that year, he became the TMJ dentist of Fort Knox where he treated 45 patients. He wrote a thesis on the contributing causes of symptoms that make up the TMJ disorder/syndrome. Back then the understanding of the influence of the stress system and how its hormones changed the body chemistry profoundly was in its infancy.To this day, this has formed a foundational understanding of how to treat patients with TMJ or compression disorders though his way of treating has been greatly improved in effectiveness and simplicity. His professional experience in the Army is where he got really excited about all the phases of dentistry. His skills were developed along with his understanding of patient needs. This allowed him to create integrated treatments because he understood specialized dentistry and what could be done. His practice is full-service, holistic and quality oriented so he can help most patients with complex dental or health related problems without having to refer them to specialists. Dr. Hatland cares for his patients. He has helped me over my fear of dental work and encourages me to calm myself. He provides me with helpful strategies and home care practices as well. He doesn't just send me out the door and say good luck. We have been coming to him for years and drive from the far west suburbs. It's worth it. I have referred him to many of my friends.

Dr. Hatland loves his patients and takes such good care of me and my gums. I have a lot of gum issues and he has saved my teeth and my gums with using his best recommended tool - the hydroflosser.
I use this religiously and it has really helped me.
Amazing dentist. I had gum issues with with multiple gum pockets as high as 8 or 9. His advise (hydroloss with hydrogen peroxicde) for dealing with the issue brought them down to 2 or 3 with a few still with 5 (due to my faulty technique).
Dr. Hatland is very personable and I enjoy my visits with him. I leave the office visit always in a good mood!
Dr. Hatland is very patient and has made a tremendous impact in the health of my gums and teeth.
I was facing root canals and extractions of 4 teeth, but thanks to Dr. Hatland's patience in explaining proper care- oral irrigation and brushing fundamentals (which no other dentist did) as well as the treatment I received- I reversed the gum disease and my teeth are healthier than they have ever been.
Dr. Hatland has always been available for our family in emergencies. His office is located close to our home. He charges a fair price for good work. He does everything (all dental procedures) himself, which saves us time and money. He has had years of experience and knows what he is doing. We trust his dentistry completely. Dr. Hatland has helped me very much to keep my severe gum disease in check, partly by recommending the Hydrofloss (ionic water pik machine), which I use daily.
I always enjoy my appointments with Dr Hatland (yes enjoy the dentist!) He's friendly and does his work quickly. The office staff is very nice . Highly recommend!
