Mary G. Clarkson Elementary School was built in 1963 and named to honor Mary Griffith Clarkson who was an active resident of Bay Shore, N.Y., and a distinguished member of the district board of education. It provides learning opportunities to more than 550 students in kindergarten through grade two. The school s academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as language development, math, science, social studies, art, music and physical education. Its teachers and parents emphasize on the literacy skills through writing process, share-a-book and parents as reading partners programs. The school additionally provides after-school remediation, enrichment and accelerated programs. It also offers various special services, such as inclusion placements, counseling, speech, English as a Second Language program, and occupational and physical therapies.
