Based in Archbald, Pa., the Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit is a regional service agency. It supports the local school districts in their academic programs. The agency provides a wide range of services and programs, including school administration and management information services, special educational programs and school s curriculum. It offers special education programs for children suffering from autism, and emotional, hearing, speech, physical and mental disorders. Its autism program offers direct instruction to meet the needs of students with impairment in various areas that include social interaction, communication and imagination activity, restricted repertoire of activities and interests and abnormal and inconsistent responses to sensory stimuli. The Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit operates a teaching and consultation consultant services that is designed to support the professional development needs of general and special education teachers, administrators and paraprofessionals to develop and enhance site-based programs.
