- Primary CareWhen Should I Start Having My Child’s Eyes Examined? It should go without saying that good vision is important for a child’s growth and development. The earlier a potential issue is identified and treated, the less of an impact it is likely to have in the future. While you should never hesitate to call us at any signs of problems with your child’s eyes or eyesight, it is also important to have routine professional exams. This way, we may be much more likely to identify, monitor, and/or treat conditions that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Primary care physicians will screen children for visual acuity and alignment issues. If a parent notes any alignment issue, or if a child has any sign of poor vision, they should be brought to the eye doctor. A routine exam at the time of entry into school is a good idea, but not a requirement if they do well on visual screening at the pediatrician’s office. As part of a regular children’s eye exam, we will often test...
- Family PracticeDuring your appointment, we’ll be asking about personal and family health history and any medications you may be taking. If either of these areas are extensive, it can be helpful to bring a list—especially of your medications—along with you. Don’t forget to bring your current glasses and/or contacts, too, and a copy of their prescriptions if you have them. Contact lens prescriptions can often be found on their boxes.
- GlaucomaGlaucoma is a serious eye condition that slowly damages your optic nerve, reducing your peripheral vision. Peripheral vision is an important aspect of healthy sight—it allows you to see things “out of the corner of your eye†and gives you a wider field of vision. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the US, which is why it needs to be caught early and carefully managed.

- Cataract SurgeryCataract Surgery – Your eye’s natural lens clouds with age, limiting your vision, but surgery to remove your cataracts can dramatically improve your sight. Our ophthalmologists have performed thousands of these surgeries, helping people see more clearly later in their golden years.
- Eye ExamA complete eye exam, particularly one for a new patient, typically lasts between 60-90 minutes, though they can run longer if you need additional testing. Our team will take some quick measurements of your eyes, then perform basic vision tests and check glasses prescriptions. We’ll also check your eye’s pressure and ask basic questions about your eye health, symptoms you may be having, your health history, and so on. For children, we test depth perception as well.
- Diabetes Care
- Diabetic RetinopathyDiabetes is a common disease that can affect all areas of your life and your health, including your vision. Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication that can result in blindness if it isn’t caught and treated early. Diabetic eye care is a vital part of helping your vision stay clear and healthy when you live with this disease.
- Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery is not just a procedure for people who are worried about their drooping lids—it can actually help improve peripheral sight that’s been restricted by excess skin. Drooping lids can block peripheral vision and limit your visual field. A simple oculoplastic procedure to lift your lids can help restore your range of vision.
- BlepharoplastyThis becomes a problem when the stretched out, excess skin begins to droop over the tops and sides of your eyes. This can restrict your field of peripheral vision. With sagging skin in the way, you can’t see as much above or to the sides. Sometimes the skin can even push your eyelashes down in front of your eye and block central vision, too. A lid lift surgery, also known a blepharoplasty, removes the stretchy excess skin, tightening your upper lids and eliminating the block in your peripheral vision. This is a very common and safe type of oculoplastic surgery that’s done right in the office as an out-patient procedure.
