Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is one of the leaders in the health care field. The hospital is a regional health care facility that serves more than 120,000 residents in a 15-county area in southeastern South Dakota and northeastern Nebraska. Avera Sacred Heart Hospital has expanded to meet the changing needs of the region. In addition to supporting the Avera Sacred Heart School of Radiologic Technology, the hospital is affiliated with the University of South Dakota s School of Medicine and Mount Marty College nursing and other allied health programs. In addition to Avera Sacred Heart s role as a primary and secondary care facility, it also provides a variety of specialty services. These services include home care/hospice services; an emergency department with 24-hour physician coverage; the Dakota Diabetes Center, an intensive care unit, a radiology department offering a variety of services; a cardiac catheterization laboratory; and the Avera Sacred Heart Cancer Center offering radiation therapy.
