I'm aghast, agog, and against the anonymous tourist who made so bold as to put down the Bear Cafe. How burgeois! The Bear is an experience and it is truly unique with its food and service, and there is no way this person and her husband were not treated well. How she can criticize the food is absurd. I've been eating there for more than thirty years with nary a complaint. The current ownership is unexcelled for its attention to detail and the quality of the menu, including an award-winning wine list. The only time I don't eat there is when the Bear is closed on Tuesdays. Begone, ye of little faith and false tales. Maybe you deserved the treatment you got....if, in fact, you did get it.

My husband and I were just in Woodstock for the film festival over this past weekend. The Bear was recommended as a local dining destination. I must say I was very disappointed in the food as well as the unfriendly service, especially at the front door. The food was mediocre at best and prices were as expensive as New York City.
Many people love the Bear, with its great location and nice atmosphere. The food is above average, but nothing to rave about. There's a bar scene and some celeb watching going on.
