- Pediatric CareWhile we have served our community since the late 1990’s, we changed our name to Woodstock Pediatric Medicine P.C. in March 2004 when Dr. Jesenko Vukotic bought our practice. We currently have four pediatricians, Dr. Heaven, Dr. Le, Dr. Rzeznik and Dr. Shah, whom are all board certified pediatricians and members of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). In addition, we have also Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Shannon Dobson and Milan Wade Johnson and our Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Julie Anna Gomez.
- Smoking CessationE-cigarettes were initially intended as a substitute for those engaged in smoking cessation programs but quickly found its way into the hands of our youth. JUUL is one particular type of e-cigarette and is highly addictive and it contains nearly double the amount of nicotine found in other brands. All e-cigarettes contain some type of ‘e-liquid’ in a detachable cartridge and flavors may be substituted – thereby contributing to the popularity. It has been reported that in the US, approximately 8 million adults and 5 million children use e-cigarettes. In 2018, approximately 13,000 middle school students in NYC reported using e-cigarettes.
- Ear InfectionsProtects against invasive Pneumococcal disease (serious bloodstream infections, meningitis, deep skin infections, etc.) Because the HIB vaccine was so effective, scientists decided to develop a vaccine against Streptococcus pneumoniae, which is the second leading cause of bacterial meningitis in young children. By immunizing your child with both the HIB and Prevnar, you are preventing about 93% of cases of bacterial meningitis in your child. As a side bonus, it has been found that Prevnar also reduces the numbers of cases of ear infections and sinus infections in children. (This does not prevent all cases of ear infections/sinus infections, but reduces the number of infections caused by this particular bacteria.) Do not confuse Streptococcus pneumoniae with “strep throat,” which is caused by group A streptococcus and will not be prevented with this vaccine.

- AutismMeasles, Mumps and Rubella. Prior to universal vaccination with MMR, measles was a common childhood virus that led to seizures, brain damage and death in a significant number of children. Mumps can lead to deafness, meningitis, and swelling of the testicles or ovaries, which could lead to infertility and (rarely) death. Prior to vaccination, Rubella, commonly called “German Measles,” was a leading cause of miscarriage and serious birth defects in pregnant women who were infected with the virus. The MMR vaccine does NOT cause autism. Several published studies have documented that there is NO association between the MMR vaccine and developmental problems/autism.
