- Dental CareAt each office visit we will perform a visual exam of your pet’s teeth. Since pets won’t let us thoroughly inspect the mouth while awake, we will recommend a complete dental exam and cleaning under anesthesia if we spot any potential issues. All our dental procedures include full mouth digital X-rays to evaluate the roots of the teeth under the gumline that we cannot see visually. While your pet is under anesthesia you will be contacted with an accurate and in-depth explanation and examination of our findings. From there, all necessary treatments will be done at that time.
- VaccinationDuring this time, veterinarians usually administer a series of vaccines (every 4 weeks) that aid in protecting your young animal from infectious diseases. Puppies and kittens are easy targets for illness because they have not yet established a strong immune system. Vaccination provides the best shield against sickness during your pet's first years.
- Veterinary OphthalmologyDoes your pet have a painful or red eye? Preserving vision and eliminating pain in an animal is vital to maintaining a good quality of life. We can perform instant diagnostics to identify inflammation, ulcerations, cataracts, dry-eye conditions, and glaucoma.
- Comprehensive ExaminationFor this reason, we offer comprehensive veterinary care and drop-off appointments in a hospitable and personable environment. Whether you’re looking for preventive care or your pet is due for a wellness exam, Animal Hospital of West Woodstock is prepared to provide friendly and quality care.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlAdditionally, we screen for heartworm disease, tick-borne diseases and intestinal parasites during wellness exams. We offer a variety of options for monthly heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives including convenient 6 and 12 month injectable products for heartworms eliminating the need for oral administration to those picky and hard to medicate pets and relieving you of the guilt and burden associated with trying to remember (and forgetting!) their monthly preventatives!
- Pain ManagementAfter surgery, the recovery process is critically monitored to ensure pets are warm, clean, comfortable, and receiving appropriate pain management.
- Skin Condition and Allergy TreatmentAt Animal Hospital of West Woodstock, we are trained to recognize allergies and skin conditions that are not easily detectable, and utilize modern equipment to reveal the culprit of your pet’s discomfort.
- Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
- Ear Infection TreatmentOur vets see plenty of ear infections year round, so we are not strangers to this symptom. When we suspect an ear issue, especially a chronic one, we work to find the root cause that is generating persistent infection and pain.
- Arthritis TreatmentDaily activities and lifestyle factors are usually the leading cause of osteoarthritis. Thankfully, with the appropriate veterinary care, we can help pets live longer and healthier lives. At Animal Hospital of West Woodstock, we encourage early medical intervention to slow the progression of arthritic conditions. We now have a myriad of treatments for each stage of the arthritic process to help reduce pain, improve mobility, and keep your furry friend active and engaged with you for much longer!
- Thyroid Disease Treatment
- Heart Disease TreatmentDuring surgery, we continuously monitor your pet. We utilize SurgiVet veterinary monitoring equipment to continuously assess your pet’s heart rate and rhythm via a constant ECG, maintain safe carbon dioxide and oxygen levels with capnography and pulse oximetry, monitor blood pressure to ensure internal organ safety, provide temperature control and warming methods and administer IV fluids to promote hydration and maintain a healthy blood pressure.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentThis is a very common and understandable concern. We must remember that age itself is not a disease and that each year we only get older! Before each dental procedure a thorough physical examination and comprehensive blood work panel will be done to assess for any potential complications to performing anesthesia. Today’s anesthetic agents are very safe. We safely perform anesthesia and dentistry weekly on animals aged 10 and over with several concurrent diseases such as heart disease, liver disease, early kidney disease, and endocrine disorders. At times, additional testing may be recommended to help ensure anesthetic safety, but rest assured each anesthetic event is carefully tailored to your pet’s unique requirements.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentCleaning your furry friend’s mouth does not just serve to whiten teeth and freshen breath. That build up of dental calculus and bacteria in the mouth is eating away and their gums, teeth, and bone of the mouth causing periodontal disease which is extremely painful. Good oral hygiene can also keep your pet healthy in other areas of the body. When plaque and bacteria build up on the teeth, they can enter the bloodstream and negatively affect other parts of the body.
- Wound and Fracture CareWe can perform many different types of soft tissue surgeries, including but not limited to: tumor removals, stomach and intestinal surgery (gastrotomy, enterotomy, resection and anastomosis), bladder surgery (cystotomy), ophthalmic surgery including eye-lid procedures, cherry-eye procedures and eye-removal procedures (enucleation), ear procedures such as deep therapeutic flushing and aural hematoma repairs, laceration repairs and wound management, and vulvoplasty (recessed vulva repair).
- Dental SurgeryWe are a full-service veterinary clinic that offers wellness visits and preventive care screenings, as well as dentistry and oral surgery, ultrasound, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic procedures, and hospitalized care when necessary. We aim to create a fun and stress-free environment as much as possible, so you’ll see plenty of peanut butter, cheese, and belly rubs to help make the vet a happy place to be!
- Ophthalmic Surgery
- Veterinary SurgeryWhen your veterinarian suggests surgery for your furry companion, you can feel at ease knowing the team at Animal Hospital of West Woodstock has your pet’s best interest in mind and will provide exceptional surgical services.
- Spaying and Neutering
- Laboratory ServicesAdditionally, we also have an in-house laboratory outfitted with complete blood count (CBC) analyzers, chemistry analyzers and an Imagyst machine which provides us with the most advanced and cutting edge AI technology to analyze stool samples, ear samples, skin samples, blood smears, and perform urinalysis. With this machine we are also able to submit samples to board-certified pathologists to diagnose cancerous and other potentially life-threatening conditions and are able to receive a response in 2 hours or less!
- X-Ray
- Dental RadiologyDental X-ray is done utilizing the same equipment you’re used to in your dentist’s office to identify dental disease lying below the gumline. Because pets will not allow this to be done while awake, these X-rays are taken during all of our dental procedures while under general anesthesia.
- Senior Pet CarePets have specific needs based on their age. Puppies and kittens need to visit the vet often in the first few months of life. Adult pets need one wellness visit annually for optimal health. Senior pets (age 7 and older) should visit the vet twice a year so the doctor can find any potential age-related health issues early. During a wellness visit, our vets perform a complete head-to-toe examination to set a heath baseline and to determine any abnormalities. We also offer preventative care screenings that include CBC, chemistry analysis, and urinalysis for junior pets aged 1- 6 years old and CBC, extended chemistry analysis, urinalysis and thyroid screenings for our geriatric pets aged 7 and older at a discounted price compared to the cost if we wait until they are sick.
- Large Animal VetDr. Boggs grew up in Florida, having moved around a lot because of his father's job as a hospital administrator. At an early age he knew he wanted to work with animals, although that train was almost derailed when he saw a large animal veterinarian have his arm up one of his aunt's horse's rear. But despite this, his interest in veterinary medicine persisted, and when his family moved to Macon, Ga, he started to work at his family veterinarian's office as a kennel helper. Ultimately, he went to the University of Georgia where he earned his undergraduate degree and was then accepted to the veterinary school at UGA. After graduating from vet school in 2004, he completed a one-year internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs.
