In 1985, Dawn enrolled herself and her 2 sons in karate classes--and loved it! She earned her Black Belt in 1988 and began teaching kids' classes in after-school programs. Parents were drawn to Dawn's age-appropriate curriculum and "love-based" teaching method, which centered on good manners, focus, and kid-friendly self-defense. In 1995, Dawn opened her first school. In 2001, by popular demand, she began expanding to new locations. Her success inspiring children led to being asked to mentor other kids teachers around the world. Dawn is also the author of Scholastic's book series, The Black Belt Club. In 2006, Dawn was inducted into Black Belt Magazine's Hall of Fame for her contributions to the martial arts. In 2010, after more than 25 years of teaching children, Dawn founded Gozen Karate, the world's first "child-style" of martial arts. She currently owns 7 schools around LA: Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Sherman Oaks, Encino, and Woodland Hills.
