General Info
A Positive Dog Training School provides a positive learning experience for your dog. We use positive reinforcement and praise. We don't believe in using negative reinforcement to train your dog. Overcrowded class....limited parking. Owner cannot stay on subject and if you have any dog problems or questions this is not the place. The Owner bad mouth her own trainers behind their backs.
Really if you don't have a Retriever they and the students with retrievers will push you out....very chaotic place too many dogs in one class. No room to move around.

I've taken classes for the last 5 years and found them to really focus on building a relationship between the handler and the dog. Puppy classes are a great foundation and the Freestyle (tricks or dancing to music) and K-9 nose work (finding a scent) classes are fun. I am hoping they get a TDI instructor for certifying Therapy work since it would complement the freestyle classes.

I highly recommend Positive Dog training school. I've taken all levels of classes here and enjoyed them all. Joan and Chrisse kept Obedience 1 fun for puppies with short attention spans and keep the Open/Utility Combo moving and fun. They're also great problem solvers, coming up with many different ways to try a new exercise.

Excellent school and instructors. We have taken 4 Newfoundlands and 2 St. Bernards through various levels of training. Our Newfs love the attention and personalized instruction. We continue to enroll in Karen's Essentials class to keep them engaged and learn for their Canine Good Citizen Test. Our Saints have come to PDT for tracking classes, Agility, CGC, Tricks, and training to be a therapy dog. Without hesitation, we definitely recommend the school and teachers to friends and fellow canine owners. Marc & Harry

Fun and entertaining classes. Our dog loves going to these classes. Teachers are helpful and really want you to improve. Karen is a great teacher. Gives constructive criticism to help you improve. I highly recommend Positive Dog Training. Nicole & Suzie

I have been to many classes at Positive Dog Training and I have found all the instructors to be very knowledgeable, very professional in their teaching. The classes, especially Improving The Essential Commands are excellent in helping a handler train their dog. And the Basic Obedience class is far more comprehensive than others I have been to. Karen really knows dogs and how to train them in a kind, respectful manner. The "Improving The Essentials" classes are great for putting all the training into action. My puppy is learning her manners and obedience and I thank Karen and Positive Dog Training for that! This is my 3rd session with them and I am sure I will do more. I've taken several classes (more than 5) with Karen Hanka and I've learned something new every time. Our class has a wide range of breeds - Dobie, Newfie, my Shepherd, St. Bernard, Sheepdog, and Karen gives specific help for each breed. Karen also works great with you whether your goals are a happy pet or a show dog. I wouldn't go any place else and I recommend this school to my friends with dogs and also to my dog's breeder who gives the school as a recommendation to people in this area who buy dogs from her. The relationship between my dog and myself has improved 1,000% since beginning training with Positive Dog Training. Initially I had an aggressive, fearful dog. Both he and I have been transformed... He to a calmer more self assured dog, I, to his understanding partner. It is easier to work together rather than against one another. Bonnie & Senator
