I called and hired Garden State Appliance Repair to fix my kitchen refrigerator as it was freezing up inside the freezer door by the ice and water dispenser. On Monday November 30, 2015, George (Newman?) arrived at my home in the morning representing Garden State. This freezing up had been a long term issue with my refrigerator and I expressed that to both Francine, who answered the phone at Garden State, and George, the technician, when he came out to my home. He diagnosed the refrigerator to need new parts inside the water and ice dispenser. I agreed to the repairs and gave George a $100.00 check for a deposit on a $251.45 total bill. On January 13, 2016 George returned and installed the parts which I then paid him by check the $151.45 balance. This did not fix the issue which disappointed me, as since this refrigerator was over 13 years old, I did not want to put much money into it for repairs. I expressed this to George many times. I called Garden State on March 14th about this issue, and George calling back on the 18th, and over the phone, told me that it must be another part(s) that was causing the issue and he could change it/them out for an additional $283.55. I reluctantly agreed. George again came to my home on April 13th and replaced what he said would fix the issue. Again, it didn't. It continued to freeze up. Nothing different from the original issue. I called Garden State again and George came to my home on June 15th and adjusted the door again. This time replacing a part in the door, with no charge. Again, it continued to freeze up. I again called Garden State. George then came to my home on August 23rd and made yet another adjustment. Still freezing up afterward. I called Garden State on September 30th to ask George to call me. No call back. I called on October 17th and again asked for George to call me back. He called the next morning. I again told him the problem is not fixed. He mentioned about replacing door seals which would be another expense for me. I turned it down as my confidence had diminished and instead asked for my money back because I have the same issue with my refrigerator as I had before I called him. I'm also now at a total cost of $535 to me. He refused and mentioned the new parts he put in. My contention is that they weren't the correct ones to fix the issue which is what I paid him for. I told him I would give him a week to think about it before I went further. I gave him over two weeks. I never heard back which brought me to file a claim with Small Claims Court in Gloucester County, NJ.Further ... at Small Claims Court, George represented Garden State and lied about his involvement at my home. He claimed that twice he offered to put my old parts back in (I'm thinking they were thrown out) and only charge me for his labor. This never happened!! He lied to the judge and she found him more credible than me with that lie and I lost at trial. I was stunned that someone would be allowed to charge $535 ... have the so-called repair look no different than when it started ... and win in Small Claims Court on complaint. Buyer Beware on the expertise of Garden State in general and George Newman, the owner, in particular.
