General Info
Although she provides comprehensive eye examinations and preventative eye care, Dr. Ball-Thomas' main emphasis is the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. Dr. Ball-Thomas received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1985 at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1989 from the Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, Tennessee, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She has lectured nationwide on a multitude of topics including ocular oncology, headaches, ocular complications of AIDS, neuro-opthalmology clinical grand rounds, glaucoma, and fundus photography. She serves with the Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH), traveling to impoverished nations to provide medical eye care, as well as volunteering her time locally at the Coalition for the Homeless in Orlando. Dr. Ball-Thomas also serves as chief consultant for the Florida Optometric Licensure Examination Committee, an advisory committee to the Florida Board of Optometry. Prior to joining the practice, Dr. Marguerite Ball-Thomas served as a staff optometrist for four years at the world renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Ball-Thomas participated in several national studies at Bascom Palmer, including The Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS), the Study of the Ocular Complications of AIDS (SOCA), and the Central Retinal Vein Occlusion Study (CVOS). Dr Ball-Thomas' last two years at Bascom Palmer included the position of Neuro-ophthalmology Clinical Supervisor. Dr. Ball-Thomas returned to her hometown of Winter Park in January 1994 to join Eye Associates of Winter Park.
