General Info
Medicine captured my imagination, admiration and appreciation very early on in my life. After a gymnastics sports injury as a teenager, I went from being immobile to competing again in the span of four months, thanks to my orthopedic surgeon. The experience felt like something close to magic. Needless to say, it had a lasting impact on me and was the catalyst for my pursuit of a career in medicine. \n I graduated medical school from the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2012 and went on to do my OB-GYN residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. While I always knew medicine was my calling, my specific passion for women's health did not emerge until medical school. Experiencing first-hand the incredible privilege and responsibility involved with caring for women through all stages of life, and especially childbirth, was another formative experience in my life. \n Today, I seek to leverage my education, training and life experiences to benefit the care I provide to the community. My undergraduate degree in mathematics from University of Tennessee in Knoxville gives me a strong foundation for ensuring my patients are receiving the best, most current, data-proven treatments available. But I also know that data isn't all doctors should consider; medicine is about more than what numbers tell us. I learned this lesson early in my career on a medical mission trip to Haiti where the importance of listening and understanding a patient's background first was key to successful outcomes. In addition, serving as a member on the hospital's obstetrics operations group and the surgical operations committee I am able to impact meaningful policies that improve patient care and experience. \n My husband, Aubrey Parsley, and I have two young sons. My husband's family has strong ties to Wilmington, so we settled here in 2019 to raise and grow our family. While my days as a gymnast may be behind me, I continue to enjoy being physically active. It's pretty easy to do - all I have to do is put on sneakers and chase after my two very active boys. Baking is something I loved doing with my mother as a child, and I still enjoy it today. Now, I'm thrilled to be making new memories in the kitchen with my sons.
