Head Start was founded in 1965 to address the educational and developmental needs of citizens and young children. Head Start programs have been operated at the local, grassroots level throughout the United States. It offers a comprehensive service system for both children and their families and thousands of children have been given the chance to do their best in order to achieve their potential in school. It provides opportunities for children to develop the building blocks for learning physical and nutritional well-being, social, emotional competence and developmental growth. Head Start works with families to support them in moving toward for self-sufficiency. It helps children to have the best chance for success in school, and is located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
