The sheriff's office is a full-service law enforcement agency that works for the protection of residents lives and properties. It maintains a staff of more than 100 employees. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office serves over 55,000 residents. The sheriff's office operates patrol, detective and narcotics divisions. It offers crime investigation services, as well as administers a community watch program. The Columbus County Sheriff's Office also conducts the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program. The sheriff's office provides sex offender registration services. It is a part of the government of Columbus County in North Carolina.
