FORTISTAR was founded in 1974 as an affiliate of the Commercial Union Assurance that is an insurance company with its headquarters in the United Kingdom. It has developed several investment programs, including leveraged preferred stock, tax-advantaged real estate roll ups and wrap leases. The company handles more than 15 power projects that includes Lockport Project, North Tonawanda Project and the Honey Lake Project and offers services, such as providing development capital and arranging construction debt. It also participates in the development tasks, including procuring the site, negotiating contract, obtaining the necessary permits, arranging the financing and overseeing plant design and construction. FORTISTAR is located in White Plains, N.Y.
