- Dental ExaminationPerhaps the most important part of your initial comprehensive exam involves examination and discussion of the health of your temporomandibular joints (TMJ). Your TMJs are the hinges for your biting or masticatory system which also includes your biting muscles and your teeth.

- CrownsDental crowns are most often used to restore teeth when a tooth is fractured or when there is insufficient tooth structure left to restore the tooth with a filling.
- Bridges-Patient presents with aging dentistry. -Patient has poor function, resulting in anterior wear and recession. -Patient also has missing teeth with existing bridges. -Crowns and bridges to replace missing teeth are placed on all teeth to restore Aesthetics and Function with level plane of occlusion.
- Dental BondingTooth bonding is a technique used to add tooth-colored material to the tooth. It can be used to fill tooth gaps, change tooth shapes or repair chips and fractures. It is a technique used often at Lake Area Dental with beautiful cosmetic dentistry results.
- Restorative DentistryIn working closely with Dr. Jaksa on the mutual care of patients where orthodontic treatment is needed, I have noticed his passion for delivering exceptional dental care. I have also noted his ability to communicate with patients about their treatment by using diagnostic aids such as dental models, films, and photos to help explain his findings and treatment objectives. Through his training and experience he has obtained the skills necessary to diagnose and provide care to the most complex dental problems. Dr. Jaksa is committed to continuing education. He has expanded his knowledge of dental malocclusions, TMD (jaw joint disorders), and comprehensive esthetic restorative dentistry by attending dental courses taught by national leaders in dentistry. Dr. Jaksa’s dedication to providing superior dental treatment is also demonstrated by the use of the most updated dental technology in his office. It is a pleasure taking care of the children and adults in Dr. Jaksa’s office when orthodontic treatment is indicated.
- Root Canal TreatmentRoot canal treatment is a painless procedure that is sometimes necessary to save your tooth from extraction. Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp (artery, nerve, vein, and connective tissue) becomes inflamed or diseased. During a root canal, this diseased tissue is removed from your pulp chamber and pulp canal inside your tooth. This is what keeps your tooth alive. If this is not done, bacteria will replace the vital pulpal tissue and eventually move out of the tooth into the bone and facial tissues, and cause the tooth to abscess. The pulpal chamber and root canal of the tooth are cleaned and sealed with a rubber type material called gutta percha, so bacteria can’t live and grow inside the tooth. This is a highly successful treatment to save many teeth. If the infective pulp is not removed, significant pain and facial swelling can result. The option to this treatment is usually an undesirable extraction if an abscessed tooth is not treated with root canal treatment.
- Dentures-Patient has multiple missing teeth with several unrestorable remaining teeth requiring extractions. -Full upper and lower dentures were fabricated. -Implants with snap attachments were placed in the lower arch to greatly improve retention of denture.
- Dental Implants– Patient presents with poorly placed implants and restorations on two upper front teeth, uneven occlusal planes, poor aesthetics and poor function.
- Oral SurgeryAdults with poor skeletal patterns are more difficult to treat. Orthodontics and Oral surgery can be utilized to change skeletal patterns and correct the apnea patient. This can be the optimally ideal treatment plan for more severe apnea patients.
- Maxillofacial SurgeryDental surgery performed by Dr. Jaksa includes extractions of erupted and impacted teeth and other simple surgery procedures. More involved procedures like complex extractions or oral maxillofacial surgery needing a referral will be given to one of the area’s most competent oral surgeons. Dr. Jaksa, Dr. Andreasen and Dr. Kent are involved in many cases that are multidisciplinary requiring team work. Both Dr. Andreasen and Dr. Kent are committed to excellence and very experienced in providing the surgical needs required by Dr. Jaksa for his patients. The doctors study together and meet or talk frequently to discuss patient treatment plans. This is not common in our profession and our patients benefit immensely from doctor communication.
- Tooth Extractions
- Bone Grafting-Patient presents w/severe wear resulting in over closed vertical dimension, and over-erupted lower 6 front teeth resulting in uneven occlusal planes. -Color is poor from Tetracycline stain. -Patient has failing anterior bridge with missing right front tooth and cracked left front tooth. -Crown Lengthening is done on lower front teeth and all upper teeth to put tissues in the correct position. -Bone grafting is done in area of 2 front teeth to increase bone amount necessary for implant placement. -Implant is placed in site of right front tooth. -Left front tooth is connected to right front tooth and supported by right front tooth restoration. -Vertical Dimension is opened by restoring entire lower arch. -Crowns are placed on all teeth except upper molars, case is restored to correct Aesthetics and Function.
- OrthodonticsTMJ treatment involves joint health assessment (TMJ exam) and appropriate treatment related to diagnosis. MRIs are used in some cases to find the extent of joint damage. Dental splints are used to establish the “perfect bite” to assess joint health and stability. Splints are assessed monthly to establish if the patient is pain free with a stable non-changing bite. Medications are used in some cases to reduce inflammation and reduce muscle activity. Other treatments involve restoring the bite to ideal function. This treatment could potentially include orthodontics, skeletal surgery, or TMJ surgery. If orthodontics or TMJ surgery is necessary, Dr. Jaksa works with a team of specialists that are among the best in the dental community.
- Invisalign OrthodonticsPatient had large composites on front 2 teeth and crowded hyper-erupted lower front teeth causing anterior wear. Invisalign was completed to correct tooth positions. 4 crowns were placed on upper front 4 teeth to ideal esthetic & function.
- BracesFirkus went through a two-year process to transform his smile which included braces and ended with new porcelain caps. “When I look in the mirror or see myself in a picture smiling, I feel younger and healthier with my new smile,” Firkus says. And aside from great results, “Dr. Jaksa and his staff are perfectionists with a sense of humor; you want that in your dentist.”
- Teeth WhiteningUnder the supervision of a teeth whitening dentist, this simple cosmetic procedure is a long lasting. Some of the safest, most cost-effective teeth whitening techniques are either a dental office fabricated take home tray system, which is custom made for your mouth, or dental office issued Crest 3D White Strips with advanced seal, no slip technology ™, introduced in 2013. They are four times stronger than retail-purchased crest strips and now adhere to the teeth. They are used 1 hour daily for 14 days. Based on your treatment needs, Dr. Jaksa will advise you as to which of these methods he recommends. Teeth whitening results leave you with a pleasing, whiter and more youthful smile.
