- Constipation
- Irritable Bowel SyndromeConstipation is a common condition that involves infrequent or hard bowel movements that may occur as a result of insufficient fluid consumption or a diet that does not contain enough fiber. This test releases a hormone that provides negative feedback on the pituitary gland in respect to cortisol, which causes normal patients to enter significantly low levels of cortisol. Cushing’s patients, however, would still display unaffected to elevated levels of cortisol. The test is usually confirmed by a CT scan of the adrenal glands and an MRI of the pituitary gland, in which they look for the growth responsible for the additional hormone production.
- X-Rays
- Computed TomographyColonoscopies are performed to investigate irregularities found on an X-ray or CT scan, abdominal pain, diarrhea or blood in the stool. They may also be performed regularly for people at risk for polyps or colon cancer.
- Joint ReplacementUnfortunately, most types of arthritis are currently incurable – but today’s treatment options can be very effective. Treatment typically involves a combination of anti-inflammatory medication and devices to relieve stress on the joint (canes, crutches or splints). Regular exercise, weight loss for overweight patients, and cortisone injections may also be helpful. In severe cases, orthopedic surgery such as joint replacement may be the only way to improve or restore function and relieve pain.

- LaparoscopyThe biopsy procedure can be performed in several different ways, but generally takes about 20 minutes and may be performed in your doctor's office or in a hospital. Laparoscopy is often used in a liver biopsy to minimize the incisions needed, while a percutaneous biopsy uses local anesthesia and a needle to take multiple samples. Percutaneous biopsies may also be assisted by imaging techniques to properly guide the needle. A short recovery time of a few hours is needed after a liver biopsy because of the use of anesthesia.
- UlcerAbout 80% of ulcers are caused by a bacteria infection known as Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). However, it is unknown how H. pylori enters the body. Life factors such as smoking, caffeine, alcohol, stress and extreme use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) can increase the risk of an ulcer.
- EczemaAtopic dermatitis, a form of eczema, is a chronic skin disorder that causes dry, itchy skin and often results in a red rash. It is most common in babies and children, and tends to affect those with a family history of allergies and asthma, although the actual cause is unknown. Atopic dermatitis can affect different areas of the skin, but is most commonly found on the face, neck, arms and legs. It is usually mild and can go away on its own, but may be more severe if it affects a larger area.
- LesionsUlcers are sores or lesions found on the skin or within the mucous membranes of the body. Most ulcers occur in the gastrointestinal area and are known as peptic ulcers. These ulcers affect almost 5 million people each year. Peptic ulcers are found either in the stomach, known as gastric ulcers, or in the duodenum (part of the intestines), known as duodenal ulcers. Duodenal ulcers are the most common.
