Today I went to Bullocks on the recommendation of two acquaintances who stated the "Fried chicken was the best". I have to candidly say that I was disappointed. It was a wasted trip; we ordered the fried chicken, coleslaw, western fries, fried flounder, mashed potato with green beans and lemonade. To sum it up: We wasted $14.00+ dollars. The chicken was nothing to rave about, I've tasted much better. The western fries were greasy and I can't remember what it tasted like, I only ate two. The flounder was flat and patted down with more bread than fish and on the greasy side. The fish was tasteless and oily, the string beans tasted like canned beans, the coleslaw was somewhat tasty but I had to leave half back. My plate was left with food on it, I could not finish the meal. We wished we had ordered from the salad bar, if we did the experience may have been nice. In summary: I will not be going back to this restaurant.
Fried chicken is awesome. Everything else is in my opinion awful. Seems like everything is deep fat fried in the same cooker. Crab cakes taste like fish, which tastes like French fries, which tastes like everything else. Salad bar was meager with wilted lettuce. But back to the fried chicken. If you are going to have a picnic or a cookout and don't want to spend time in the kitchen, get an order of fried chicken to go. I will honestly say that it is the best fried chicken you can buy. Get a loaf of homemade raisin bread to go with it.
