Founded in 1950, John Laidlaw School provides educational programs to more than 400 students in kindergarten through grade five. It offers classes in reading, physical education, music, art, computer applications and language arts. The school additionally provides a special education program for gifted and talented students. It offers language and speech therapy services for students with developmental disabilities. The school maintains a library that provides curriculum-related materials and a variety of leisure reading options for students. It also operates a parent-teacher organization that serves as a resource for students, parents and staff members. John Laidlaw School is a part of Western Springs School District 101, which operates several elementary, middle and high schools.
