Continental Drilling & Service, Inc. was started as Continental Sales and Service by Mr. & Mrs. O.C. LaBorde, Jr. in 1953. The early years consisted of engine & pump sales along with full repair facilities. A few short years later in the mid 1950’s the company became active in drilling water wells for irrigation and domestic use. Early in the 1960’s the focus of the company changed somewhat and the drilling rigs were sold and the main focus was on the supply store and a well service and pump repair department. Shortly thereafter, the company changed its name to Continental Engine & Pump Company. In 1978 the company re-entered the drilling business and purchased a used Mayhew drilling rig. The next year they purchased a new Gardner Denver 1400 drilling rig followed by a new Failing Jed-A drilling rig two years later. Two years following that a second Failing Jed-A drilling rig was purchased. In 1985 the company split into two different corporations to help differentiate between the two directions it was pursuing. Wholesale Pump & Supply Co. Inc. was begun and moved offsite and Continental Drilling & Service, Inc. remained as a contracting company. Wholesale Pump & Supply operates in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas with the main office in Shreveport and branches in Jennings, LA; Tyler, TX; Beaumont, TX; Hammond, LA; Hot Springs, AK and Southhaven, MS. Both companies are now operated separately and independently managed. In 1987 a 3,000’ Skytop drilling rig was added to the drilling fleet. A downhole all digital electric logging unit, sonar jet unit and perforating and explosives units were all added to the wireline department in the mid 1990s. A 1,000 sack capacity pressure-cementing unit was built in our shop and added to the fleet in the late 1980’s. In 2002 a new Midway 1,500 was commissioned and custom built. In the early 1990’s we opened a full time machine shop and greatly expanded our shop operations. In the late spring of 2013 we moved into our newly constructed office and shop facilities at 449 Montgomery Street. In early 2015 Continental Drilling & Service, Inc. opened a new office in West Monroe. Continental Drilling currently operates three full time drilling crews that operate between four different drilling rigs as well as four full time pump service crews, a machine shop and regular maintenance facilities. Continental Drilling currently employees 22 full-time employees.
