Alexander Kuo, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with a special interest in providing pre- and post-liver transplant care to patients with end-stage liver disease.Dr. Kuo has authored numerous research articles, book chapters, and editorials on his research in improving patient and graft survival after liver transplantation, in particular with patients who have recurrent HCV infection. He is the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials of novel agents against HCV at the UC San Diego Antiviral Research Center. In addition to clinical research, Dr. Kuo offers instruction to medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Kuo received his medical degree from UC San Francisco, School of Medicine. He completed residency training in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School, Mass. General Hospital in Boston, MA. He completed fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology at UC San Francisco, School of Medicine. Dr. Kuo has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a "Top Doctor" and is a core faculty member in the International Antiviral Society. He is a member of several professional medical societies including the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), American Society of Transplantation, and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). He is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and holds a certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in transplant hepatology.
