The Haywood County Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency that protects residents lives and property, preserves public peace, and enforces local, state and federal laws. Located in Waynesville, N.C., it provides a variety of services, such as fingerprinting, background checks, bicycle registration, gun permits, and domestic violence and sexual offenses prevention. The Haywood County Sheriff's Office maintains specialized domestic violence and child abuse task forces. The office also has a citizen's advisory committee that is composed of citizens, community development groups and local downtown associations. The Haywood County Sheriff's Office supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior.
