The care at this facility is the lowest level I have seen. Nothing that is promised at admission actually occurs. Activities are rare to non-existant. The food is tasteless, the portions are kids sized and the only snacks served are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Rehabilitation of patients is extremely slow and residents decline rapidly while here. I have seen patients come in fairly healthy looking and become thin, weak, and pale in Oak Ridge's care.. Concerns for the medical care of my father fell on deaf ears. There was rarely contact with doctors and the nursing staff's only concern was dispensing medication. My father's clothes were stolen, and I would frequently arrive to find him in the same clothes day after day and unclean. I had to visit daily to practically make sure he was fed and clean myself. When he had a medical emergency, the staff scrambled to locate proper equipment to resuscitate him and wasn't sure how to use it. I could go on and on..... I have since moved my father to another facility and the care is wonderful. He is clean, well fed, cared for and the staff has prepared a plan for his care that they stick to and inform me every step of the way. I cant believe all of the stress I went through while my father was in OakRidge for nothing. People say that all of these places are the same, but that is NOT true. When you visit a facility, ignore the promises and pay special attention to the appearance of the patients and the way the aids and nurses treat them. No matter how beautiful the place, look for warmth in the people who will care for your loved one.
