Established in 1977, Prairie State Legal Services is a nonprofit corporation that provides legal assistance for senior citizens and low-income individuals in more than 35 counties in northern and central Illinois. The organization was created by the merger of various official programs in Kane, Lake, McLean, Peoria and Winnebago counties in Illinois. It is funded by the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois, United Way and Area Agencies on Aging, as well as federal and local funding sources. Prairie State Legal Services offers a variety of services through licensed attorneys. The organization provides in-home and nursing care services. It maintains a location in Waukegan, Ill.
