- GlaucomaOne of the leading causes of blindness, glaucoma refers to a group of conditions that cause damage to the optic nerve, the part of the eye responsible for your sight. For many of these conditions, loss of vision is the only noticeable symptom. Though glaucoma is incurable, we offer Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) to our patients in Central New York, a treatment that can be safely repeated, to alleviate pressure in the eye and prevent further loss of vision. Contact Syracuse Ophthalmologic Consultants to learn more about glaucoma and its treatment.

- Laser Eye SurgeryLASIK is a popular laser vision correction treatment designed to improve the vision of those with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. A laser is used to reshape the cornea, changing its focusing power to dramatically improve vision. LASIK eye surgery is an outpatient procedure offered to patients in the Upstate New York area who seek to reduce their dependency on glasses and contact lenses. Learn more about LASIK eye surgery and schedule a free initial consultation at our Liverpool or Watertown offices.
- CataractsLenses affected by cataracts are often replaced with synthetic lenses that look and function like your natural lens. These artificial intraocular lenses (IOLs) are implanted in place of your natural lens. IOLs are permanent and require no additional maintenance. Unlike traditional implantable lenses, the latest IOLs are multifocal, meaning that they improve vision at all distances. For cataract patients with astigmatism, we offer toric IOL s, which offer the some of the same benefits as regular premium IOLs, but are suited to the unique needs of those with astigmatism.
- Cataract SurgeryThe surgeons at Syracuse Ophthalmologic Consultants focus on custom cataract surgery, using the latest quality implant lenses, to correct and improve vision. Custom cataract surgery also eliminates astigmatism, liberating our cataract patients from glasses and contacts.
- Eye ExamA thorough eye examination to check the inside of the eye for damage helps ophthalmologists diagnose glaucoma. If you notice changes in your vision, accompanied by pain or any of the other symptoms above, seek medical attention immediately. Early detection leads to more effective treatment.

- UltrasoundThe procedure is done one of two ways. One technique uses an instrument with ultrasound technology to break up the cataract and suction the pieces out through an incision. The second technique uses tools to mechanically disintegrate the cataract and remove the pieces through a tiny incision in the eye. Once the cataract has been removed, an intraocular lens (IOL) is placed in the eye to act as your new lens. After the lens has been placed, the incision in your eye will heal.
