- Parking: General visitor parking is available along Ohio Drive between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. There is limited handicapped parking at the Lincoln and FDR Memorials, otherwise parking is extremely scarce in Washington, D.C.
General Info
The Washington Monument is the most prominent, as well as one of the older, attractions in Washington, D.C. It was built in honor of George Washington, who led the country to independence, and then became its first President. The Monument is shaped like an Egyptian obelisk, 555¿ 5 1/8¿ high, and averages 30 to 40 miles visibility in clear weather. It was finished on December 6, 1884. Admission is FREE but a ticket is required. The ticket kiosk for the monument, located at the base of the monument on 15th street opens at 8:30 am to distribute free tickets on a first come first serve basis. Tickets may be purchased in advanced through the ticketing website or by calling.These tickets may be picked up at the ¿will call¿ window of the monument ticket kiosk the day of your tour. Clsoed on July 4th and December 25th. The following items are restricted within the Washington Monument: No storage facility available No Animals (except certified guide dogs) No Suitcases or Large Backpacks No Guns or Knives No Strollers No Food or Drink No Mace or Aerosol Cans Please let the Rangers running the lines know if you have any medical conditions (i.e. pacemakers) that require special attention at the security screening facility
