General Info
Dr. Marco Mercader is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiac electrophysiology, and cardiovascular disease. Along with his current position as cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist, he is also an associate professor with The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He is a magna cum laude graduate in bioengineering from Syracuse University. He completed his medical school training at the State University of New York where he received the American Federation for Clinical Research Award. Dr. Mercader trained in internal medicine at George Washington University and completed his cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at the same institution. He was selected as a Washingtonian Top Doctor in 2012. Dr. Mercader is author of several publications and book chapters with a focus on cardiac arrhythmias. He has multiple abstracts presented at American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Cardiostim and Heart Rhythm Society meetings. His clinical interests include the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias with cardiac ablation procedures and cardiac pacing/defibrillation devices. Dr. Mercader has a research interest in atrial fibrillation and has developed a new technology that uses NADH fluorescence to image ablation lesions. Allied Minds, a premier private equity-funded innovation company that forms, funds, manages and builds startups based on early-stage technology originating from U.S. universities has agreed to start a new company and build the innovative catheter over the next year in collaboration with the George Washington University.
