Elizabeth L. Cobbs MD is an internist, geriatrician and palliative medicine doctor with The GW Medical Faculty Associates and a professor of medicine with The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She completed her undergraduate degree at Vassar College and graduated from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. After completing her internal medicine residency at George Washington University, she joined the Division of Aging Studies and Services at the George Washington University, serving as its Director from 1992-2000. She has been Program Director for the GW Geriatric Medicine Fellowship since 1995, and she was the founding Program Director of the GW Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. She served as Vice Chair, Governing Board, GW Medical Faculty Associates, Assistant Dean for GW Graduate Medical Education, and Interim Chair of the Department of Health Care Sciences. Since 2001, she has been Chief of Geriatrics, Extended Care and Palliative Care at the Washington DC VA Medical Center. She is also Medical Director at Thomas Circle Residences and Co-PI of the Washington DC Area Geriatric Education Center Consortium. She is active in the leadership of the GW Center for Aging Health and Humanities. She serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. She is deeply engaged in physician and multidisciplinary education in Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Cobbs is board-certifed in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She has been named recurrently as a Top Doctor in the Washington DC Area. Dr. Cobbs has several clinical and scholarly interests including advance care planning documentation, person-centered care, medical education, transitions in care, geriatrics and palliative medicine.
