The Community Development Department is a part of Indian River County, Fla. It establishes and implements planning programs for the development of the community. The department works to promote, protect and improve public health, safety, appearance and general welfare; prevent overcrowding of land; and conserves and develops natural resources within the county. The Community Development Department coordinates all activities under the county planning, code enforcement and building divisions. Its environmental planning section works towards enforcing environmental regulations and permits for land clearing, tree removal and wetland resource. The department also acts as the principal administrator of the area s Metropolitan Planning Organization. The Community Development Department is located in Vero Beach, Fla.
