The Vernon Township Historical Society was founded in 1970, to preserve and protect historic sites, archives and other resources. It consists of a 13-member board of trustees, including a president, vice-president, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, treasurer, curator and other members. The Vernon Township Historical Society also encourages and promotes research, writing and publishing of historical materials. In addition, it sponsors several educational programs in Vernon township schools. The Vernon Township Historical Society maintains a location in Highland Lakes, N.J.
