Established in 1825, the Vancouver Police Department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. The department offers patrolling and traffic enforcement services. It responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for service. It operates arson, mounted patrol, explosive disposal and civil disturbance units. The Vancouver Police Department intervenes conducts investigations, gathers evidences, arrests offenders, and interviews suspects, witnesses and victims. The department intervenes in cases of burglary, theft, serious assault and sex crime. It also operates an emergency preparedness division that responds during snow storms, earthquakes and emergency situations. In addition, the Vancouver Police Department conducts safety-related training activities for the general public. The department maintains several stations in Vancouver, Wash.
