About SFM SFM Technology, Inc was founded in 2005 to provide products and services to support critical technical needs in the electronics design and manufacturing industry, as well as to commercialize ongoing research activities of the company founders in the domains of product data modeling and PCA/PCB manufacturability and testability analysis. Our DFXpert product suite is based on technology licensed from the University of Illinois and the direct result of a near decade-long research collaboration between UIUC and a leading provider of communication and aviation electronic solutions to the aerospace and defense industries. PackageWright is our latest product offering based on unique technology developed under an SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation. James Stori received his Ph.D. in Manufacturing Systems from the University of California, Berkeley in 1998. From 1998 through 2005, he served on the faculty of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His technical background and experience includes manufacturing information systems, geometric computation, and optimization and their application to manufacturing processes and systems. James was a 2000 recipient of the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Development ( CAREER ) award, and a 2003 recipient of the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer award. He left UIUC in 2005 to found SFM Technology, Inc Placid Ferreira received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University in 1987. Since then, he has served on the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Science and Engieering at the University of Illinois where he is now Department Head and the Grayce-Wicall Gauthier Professor. Dr. Ferreira's expertise is in industrial automation, including computational geometry and solid modeling with applications to automated process planning, discrete-event control of large-scale flexibly automated systems, and operations management and simulation. Dr. Ferreira received NSF's Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1990, SME's Outstanding Young Investigator Award in 1991 and the University of Illinois' University Scholar Award in 1994. Dr. Ferriera co-founded SFM in 2005, and now serves as a technical advisor in our product development and contracting activities, and is available for direct engagement with clients through our consulting services. Mike Majors is an Investment Partner at Siemens Venture Capital. Prior to joining Siemens, Mike served as CFO for a number of early stage companies, including Visible World, a leading advertising technology company focused on targeted television ads. Earlier in his career, Mike was a venture capitalist with BEV Capital and backed companies such as MaxPreps ( an online high school sports media company acquired by CBS ) and Retail Solutions ( a software-as-a-service platform for retail data acquired by VeriSign ). Mike began his career as a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group and is a graduate of Princeton University and Cambridge University.
