Examples include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, lupus and gout. Additionally, rheumatology encompasses individual areas of pain including bursitis and tendonitis.
- RheumatologyColleagues and friends for over 20 years, Dr. Glen Graves and Dr. Luis Vasquez met in medical school before reconnecting in their individual practices in Tyler, Texas. Texas Arthritis and Rheumatology Specialists was born in 2006 when they partnered to offer an innovative, patient-centered treatment option for the greater East Texas Area. TexArt Plaza was constructed on New Copeland Road in 2008 winning the prestigious Northeast Texas AIA architecture award. Adding Physician Assistant Scott Phillips to our team in 2013, Texas Arthritis has experienced tremendous growth in 10 short years as their private practice has seen over 14,000 new patients. Our growth has continued with the addition of Taryn Hope, PA-C in 2020 and Megan Followwell, PA-C in 2021.
- Family PracticeTaryn Hope began her education at Texas A&M University before becoming a certified Occupational Therapist with a degree from UT Medical Branch – Galveston. She decided to extend her medical career and received her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from UT Southwestern. Prior to specializing in Rheumatology, Taryn served the North Texas and East Texas areas in the field of Family Practice and Urgent Care.

- Internal MedicineDr. Graves completed his Internal Medicine residency in 1994 at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, where he received the Jose Garcia M.D. Outstanding Resident Award.
- UltrasoundShe is currently nationally certified and licensed by the state of Texas as a Physician Assistant. She has furthered her education with additional training in musculoskeletal ultrasound.
- MRIHis areas of special interest are rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and soft tissue musculoskeletal disorders. Also the study and mastering of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools such as musculoskeletal ultrasound, digital radiography and MRI to help manage these disorders. However, most of all he enjoys taking care of patients and watching them improve.

- Hand SurgeryScott Phillips received his master’s degree in physician assistant studies from the University of North Dakota. He is originally a native of Texas, and is pleased to be back in the lone star state. Prior to specializing in rheumatology, Scott served the East Texas community in the field of orthopedic medicine and hand surgery. He chose to specialize in rheumatology because he wanted to help people regain their quality of life.
