While they aren’t the most aggressive or dangerous species of stinging insect out there, it is still important to try and deter these pests from choosing your property to nest on as best as you can. Mud daubers feed primarily on spiders; therefore, the best prevention tip there is to deter mud daubers from choosing your property to live on is to put into place a year-round pest control program. - FleasIndoor cleaning and maintenance – Keep a clean and flea-free indoor environment by frequently vacuuming your home. Pay special attention to areas where your pets often rest. - CockroachesAmerican cockroaches are the most common complaint among homeowners, renters, and business owners. Cockroaches even make appearances on a Yelp review or two. Roaches are creepy, crunchy insects that scurry around your home when you aren’t looking for them. The American cockroach won’t bite or sting, but they present a health hazard in your home. Does your home have cockroaches? Get to know the American cockroach!

- BeesAfricanized honey bees look similar to other types of honey bees with their golden yellow coloring and dark brown bands. However, it’s easier to identify these killer bees by their behaviors. Africanized honey bees are more aggressive than honey bees, attacking in larger numbers and chasing the threat for distances great than a mile.
- WaspsThe bald-faced hornet has white marks across its face, making it appear “bald†, and giving it its name. It’s not really a hornet, but a wasp – and instead of yellow and black coloring, the bald-faced hornet is mostly black and white, helping to identify them from other wasps. The bald-faced hornet has three white stripes on their bodies and is about 3/4 of an inch in length, making them larger than the average hornet.
- TicksAmerican dog ticks are parasitic pests that are not pleasant to have around. The sneaky pests can make your family and your pet sick. Even if you don’t have dogs, cats, or domestic animals, you still need to know about the American dog tick and the many threats that they present.
- MosquitoesThe Asian tiger mosquito is black and white, unlike their brown cousins. Asian tiger mosquitoes are only about 1/4 of an inch long. They have black bodies with white markings on their bodies. These tiger-like markings include a white stripe down the front of the head and black and white bands on the legs.
- FliesWhat’s the big deal with seeing few ants in the kitchen, a few spider webs in the corner, or a couple of flies flying around your Lake Palestine home? The big deal is that the few foraging pests you are seeing inside of your home are quite often just the “tip of the iceberg†, and it is the pests that you aren’t seeing that you should be worried about. Pest infestations can’t be solved by squishing, chasing off, or vacuuming up the few you are seeing in your home. The root of your pest problem needs to be discovered- the how, where, and why has to be solved in order to eliminate pests from your Lake Palestine property and to keep them from returning. At Innovative Pest Control, we can do just that through our Advantage programs. Year-round residential pest protection provides homeowners with everything they need to maintain a pest-free household. Innovative’s most comprehensive plan is our Advantage Gold program, which provides...
- HornetsLarvae and adult bald-faced hornets consume different diets. Adult bald-faced hornets consume juices and nectar (sugary liquids) from flowers and other sources, but they will bring solid foods, including other insects and carrion, for their larvae to eat.
- YellowjacketsYellow jackets are an aggressive species of stinging insect that live and work together in large groups to feed and defend their colony. They are yellow and black in color, look similar to a bee, but with a slimmer body that is mostly hairless. A few important facts to know about yellow jackets include that they are mainly ground dwellers, but will also sometimes create their nest up off of the ground if a suitable space is available. Unlike in cooler areas of the country, yellow jackets don’t die off during Texas’s mild winter season; yellow jackets are predators and feed on other insects, along with garbage, sugary liquids, meat, and fish.
- Stink BugsWhen the temperatures cool off a bit in East Texas you will find that many insects will seek refuge inside homes and other buildings. They find their way inside through cracks, crevices, and holes found around windows and doors, exterior walls, and the foundation; they will then hide out behind walls, in attics spaces, underneath floors, and behind crawl spaces until the weather outside warms back up in the early spring. One species of occasional invader that is common in Brownsboro is the stink bug. Stink bugs are a particularly problematic pest, not because they pose a danger to people, but because of the very foul smell they produce to protect themselves against danger.
- Pantry PestsProtecting your business from the harmful and damaging effects of pests is an important part of any successful business plan. - MiceUnfortunately, American dog ticks feed on blood. They start feeding on the blood of mammals almost immediately, but larvae can survive nearly a year without feeding. When larvae hatch, they start questing. This means that the young ticks hang out mostly on the ground or climb vegetation and wait for small animals to go by so they can latch on. At this stage, they feed primarily on mice (deer mice and house mice) and other small rodents.
- RatsYes, rats can cause significant damage to your property. They have strong teeth that can gnaw through various materials, including electrical wiring, insulation, and wood. This can lead to electrical malfunctions, structural damage, and potential fire hazards.
- SquirrelsAfter a week and a half of feeding, they fall off the host and molt into the nymph stage. When ticks enter the nymph stage, they start feeding on larger mammals such as squirrels, opossum, cats, and raccoons. Your kids are also susceptible at this stage if they are playing outside and crawling around on the ground. After feeding for at least 10 days, ticks fall off the host and molt into an adult. A nymph can survive as long as 6 months without feeding.
