General Info
Tuscaloosa County Library by the Civitan Club and the Tuscaloosa County Principal's Association. Tuscaloosa County School children donated 25 cents each for bookmobile books. Ordered in 1945, the vehicle began service in November 1947. This bookmobile visited 71 stops 1 time each month. Renamed the Friedman Library in the 1950s, the Library borrowed a vehicle from Tuscaloosa County School board in 1965 until a new vehicle arrived, This was purchased in part with federal funds from the new Library Services and Technology Act ( LSTA ). Due to an increase in fuel prices, TPL discontinued bookmobile service in the mid 1980s. In 1995 a third vehicle was purchased with funds from Tuscaloosa County Commission. In 2005, TPL was awarded another LSTA grant to purchase an additional vehicle which began regular service in September, 2006. A grant received in 2008, from the Community Foundation of West Alabama in memory of Pat Faucett and matched by funds from the Friends of the Library, purchased the newest bookmobile.
