At the close of World War II, the men and women of Tulare, Calif., began working to raise the funds to build their own hospital. The construction of Tulare District Hospital in the Tulare District Healthcare System began in May 1949. As a health care district, the hospital is responsive to the community and the surrounding southern areas of Tulare County. Licensed for 112 inpatient beds, the acute care facility and the associated programs are governed by a five-member board of directors who are elected at large by the voters of the health care district.
