Tucson Airport Authority, a nonprofit organization formed in 1948, manages the Tucson International Airport in Tucson, Ariz. The airport employs more than 10,000 directly and indirectly houses nearly 10,000 other employees through vendor operations. Covering more than 8,200 acres, the TIA terminal has 26 aircraft parking spaces available and hundreds of long-term parking spots for multiple types of aircraft, including planes flown by Aerolitoral, Alaska, American, Continental, Delta/SkyWest, Frontier, Northwest, Southwest, US Airways and United. The Tucson International Airport opened as the first municipally owned airport in the United States in 1919. The Tucson Airport Authority is comprised a board of trustees that oversee policy decisions and more than 100 volunteers. In addition to TIA, the Tucson Airport Authority is also responsible for managing general aviation reliever Ryan Airfield, located 12 miles west of TIA.
