Sarah Stanko, M.D., is a pediatrician who strives to make strong connections with her patients and families the first time she meets them. She values open and direct communication throughout all of their interactions. “My goal at the end of each visit is to have a well-defined and agreed upon plan in place,” she said. “I want my patients and families to feel comfortable being vulnerable with me, as I am here to not only treat them medically, but to be their advocate and friend as they navigate the complex challenges facing them throughout childhood and adolescence.” Dr. Stanko enjoys diagnosing and treating all pediatric medical issues, but has a special interest in treating ADHD and other functional and behavioral health disorders. She also has a fondness for treating chronic disorders such as asthma and allergic rhinitis. “When recognized and treated appropriately, children can have a significant improvement in symptoms and quality of life,” she said. Working with patients in a hospital operating room inspired Dr. Stanko to pursue pediatrics as her career path. “I gained appreciation for the importance of a cohesive medical team in order to deliver exceptional care to patients,” she said. “I had many meaningful experiences helping with pediatric patients and found great satisfaction in playing a small role in their medical care.” Dr. Stanko earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she also attended the School of Medicine to obtain her medical doctorate degree. From there, she moved to Tucson and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Arizona.
