Luz Social Services is a private, nonprofit community based corporation founded in 1971 to provide health and human services to the Hispanic communities as well as the general population of Tucson in Arizona. The organization focuses on community mobilization and development, and provides prevention services for substance abuse, juvenile crimes, school dropouts and violence. It also provides prevention services for drug possessions and arrests, teen pregnancy, liquor law violations, and alcohol and tobacco use by pregnant women. Luz Social Services is supported by grants from various departments, including the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Justice. The organization's range of services include coalition building, capacity training, technical assistance, resource development, information sharing, public awareness and advocacy, and gang awareness and education. Its training programs are targeted at several community systems, such as schools, social service agencies, law enforcement, and government and behavioral health organizations.
