American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association Inc. is one of the leading nonprofit organizations that funds research to speed up the pace of medical discoveries in the United States. It supports studies that seek the causes and treatments for Fibromyalgia Syndrome, which is a painful, fatiguing and debilitating medical condition affecting three-to-five percent of the population. Some of the projects funded include the electrocardiogram-based sleep spectrogram, the genetic influences on pain modulation systems in fibromyalgia, the gene expression biomarkers for fibromyalgia and the role of myofascial trigger points in Fibromyalgia Syndrome. American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association Inc.'s small grants program offers an opportunity to young scientists to initiate new avenues in fibromyalgia research.
