- Osteoporosis
- Headaches
- Warts
- FibromyalgiaMusculoskeletal problems- Health conditions that affect your connective tissues, joints, and bones may result in pelvic pain. These conditions include fibromyalgia, hernia, the tension of the pelvic floor muscles, or pelvic joint inflammation.
- CryotherapyYour doctor could also use Cryotherapy; this entails freezing the abnormal cells. Cryotherapy procedure is effective in preventing cervical cancer. When the doctor freezes the abnormal cells in your cervix, the normal cells will have an opportunity to grow back.
- Medical Weight LossHormone imbalance, leading to abnormal bleeding, can occur for a variety of reasons. For those just entering puberty or just reaching menopause, too many hormones might be released when an egg is released from the ovaries. This causes too thick of a lining to build up in the uterus, which can lead to heavy flow during periods or spotting between periods. Birth control pills or other contraceptives can also cause a hormone imbalance, as can rapid weight loss or weight gain, use of an intrauterine device, or extreme emotional/physical stress. The hormone disorder called polycystic ovarian syndrome is also a possible cause.
- Primary CareAll postmenopausal women aged 65 and above, regardless of additional risk factors should have a BMD test. On the other hand, women under age 65 but past the menopause stage should also consider such a test if they have undergone a bone fracture due to fragile or weak bones or have additional risk factors for osteopenia or osteoporosis. It is unfortunate that only 50 percent of the women who need bone density measurement and/or bone medication successfully get it during a primary care gynecological consultation.
- High Cholesterol
- ColonoscopyColonoscopy where a doctor inserts a tube that is lit and is flexible through the rectum to check for cancer signs and polyps
- Constipation
- Irritable Bowel SyndromeIrritable bowel syndrome causes gas, bloating, and cramping. These symptoms may get more severe just before your monthly cycle starts.
- Bronchitis
- Urinary IncontinenceUrethrocele (urethra): An urethrocele is a prolapse of your urethra into the vagina. In some cases, it may be combined with a cystocele or urinary incontinence.
- DiarrheaFecal incontinence is also called anal or bowel incontinence. It is the inability to have control over defecation. This, in turn, leads to the unexpected leakage of stool from the rectum. Fecal incontinence is the second most common type of pelvic floor dysfunction. It ranges from occasional stool leakage when passing gas to completely losing bowel control. People with this condition may feel like they need to defecate but might not hold the stool until they reach the toilet.
- ImmunizationsSince the approval of the first HPV vaccination, Gardasil in 2006, the results of this vaccine were incredibly effective. Genital warts and HPV cancers have decreased more than 70% in teenage girls and more than 60% in young women since the HPV vaccination was first introduced. If you have not received an HPV vaccine, you should contact GYN LA and find out what your options are for receiving this vital protection against cancer. These are some of the advantages of receiving the HPV vaccination...
- GlaucomaAlthough they are generally safe to use, antidepressants may not be ideal if you have high cholesterol, heart diseases, glaucoma, or at a higher risk for a heart attack or stroke.
- CataractsFor phacoemulsification or cataract removal: Modern cataract procedures involve the use of high-frequency ultrasound devices. They can break up the cloudy lens into tiny pieces, which the doctor can gently remove from the eye through suction.
- GynecologyIrregular or abnormal bleeding patterns are no laughing matter - they can be indicative of a serious condition that needs to be treated without delay. And when unusual bleeding turns out to be a relatively minor issue - you still don’t feel like it’s “minor” until it is corrected and will be grateful for the peace of mind that comes with a professional OB-GYN examination to see what’s wrong.
- Female Infertility
- ObstetricsAccording to a study by The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 20 to 50 percent of women of childbearing age have fibroids, most of which are not diagnosed because they often cause no symptoms. Other estimates show that 30 to 77 percent of women will develop fibroids at one point during their reproductive age, although only 1/3 of these are large enough to be incidentally detected during a physical examination. This means that most women have had these tumors but aren’t aware.

- Pelvic Pain
- Pregnancy
- Labor and DeliverySometimes we cannot avoid what happens to our bodies. We make our bodies experience certain health conditions due to the activities we have to undertake in life. Pelvic organ prolapse, for instance, may occur due to heavy lifting that can destroy the tissues supporting the vagina and rectum, or vaginal childbirth, which we can barely avoid. However, the good news is that if you experience this condition, all is not lost. You can still undergo treatment and have your life return to normal.
- Kidney StonesBlockages in the urinary tract: Enlarged prostate or kidney stones can make it hard to empty the bladder completely, which can cause a UTI if the urine remains in the bladder for too long.
- Ovarian CancerOvarian cancer is one of the most common types of cancers in women. It occurs when cells in the ovaries begin to abnormally multiply and eventually form a tumor. Ovarian cancer affects about 22,000 women every year, and it can be very difficult to detect in its early stages.
- Cervical CancerThe American Cancer Society has released new screening recommendations regarding the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. These screenings are for women who are displaying no symptoms of cervical cancer. One of the changes the American Cancer Society no longer recommends is the annual Pap test. They have changed the requirement to every three years.
- Colon CancerHRT may decrease risk of colon cancer. Let’s look at the issue of HRT and cancer risk from a slightly different perspective. Prostate cancer is a disease of men over 50 years of age. Approximately 190,000 men will be diagnosed with this cancer each year. 30,000 men will die this year of prostate cancer. The comparable figures for breast cancer are 180,000 new cases each year and 43,000 deaths. Prostate cancer is a testosterone-dependent cancer. Castration (either surgical or medically induced) is an accepted form of treatment of advanced disease. Interestingly, prophylactic castration at age 50 would likely dramatically reduce or even completely eliminate prostate cancer as a killer of older men! If this is the case then why do we not recommend that all men be castrated at age 50?
- Interstitial CystitisInterstitial cystitis- This is a painful bladder disorder. This condition occurs due to a frequent urge to urinate and recurring pain in the bladder. You can have pelvic pain as the bladder fills, and the pain may temporarily go away when you empty the bladder.
- Urinary Tract InfectionA Urinary Tract Infection, or what is commonly referred to as UTI, is an infection found in the urinary system. Most parts that are affected by this infection are the bladder, kidney, urethra, and ureters. This infection is more prevalent in women compared to men, with a lot of them experiencing repeated infections over the years. The infection can cause a lot of discomfort, while some people can wrongly mistake it for a sexually transmitted infection. Fortunately, it is possible to treat it and even prevent its recurrence by visiting an experienced gynecologist. At Gyn LA, we have a team of gynecologists that will not only treat the infection but will give you tips on how to avoid it.
- Prostate CancerI find it interesting that we recoil at the thought of men being prophylactically castrated at age 50 (even though this might prevent 190,000 cases of prostate cancer and 30,000 deaths each year) but we readily accept “castration” (i.e. menopause) in women at the same age (even though only 2000 – 15,000 new cases of breast cancer and 200 – 1500 deaths would theoretically be prevented each year if no woman received HRT after menopause!).
- Multiple SclerosisUrinary tract infections are also prevalent among some women due to their genes. Others are more susceptible to infection because of how their urinary tract is shaped. Women that have diabetes have a high chance of getting urinary tract infections. This is because their immune system is weak and unable to fight against infections effectively. Hormonal changes in women, multiple sclerosis, among other issues that may affect the flow of urine such as stroke, kidney stones, and injuries to the spinal cord, also increase the chances of getting a UTI.
- Stress ManagementPMS is thought to be caused by the changing hormones in your body. It is manageable through exercise, getting enough rest and sleep, stress management, over the counter medication, and a higher intake of calcium.

- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Diabetes Care
- HypothyroidismThe thyroid gland directly affects your menstrual cycle. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is overactive, leading to an increase in the hormones that result in reduced or absent menstrual periods. When the thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism), you will experience heavier and longer periods.
- ThyroidBlood tests will be conducted through samples of blood collected from you. These samples will help to determine if you have an iron deficiency or any other conditions that could relate to heavy bleeding. Other disorders to check for would be thyroid disorders or other blood clotting abnormalities.
- UltrasoundAn ultrasound is an imaging diagnostic method that makes use of high-frequency waves to produce images of the structures within a person’s body. The image produced can provide valuable information for the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions and diseases. Ultrasounds are usually done by an ultrasound device that is used outside a patient’s body. However, some are used inside a person’s body.
- MRIPelvic MRI: This is a non-invasive, in-depth imaging test that produces two-dimensional images of your pelvic organs. These scans can also tell the difference between fibroids and other types of conditions that affect the uterus.
- X-Rays
- MammographyIf you feel you have been exposed to any of the above-discussed factors, breast cancer screening is crucial for you. There are various ways one can check for signs or screen for breast cancer. However, the most recommended method is mammography.
- Computed TomographyHowever, obturator and femoral hernias are a little difficult to diagnose, even when the patient is experiencing such symptoms as pelvic or inguinal pain. In that case, you may need to undergo a computerized tomography scan, (CT scan), to disclose the exact diagnosis. As for umbilical hernias, they are straightforward to locate since they simply present as a huge bulge on the belly button
- ChemotherapyThese therapies are necessary to manage cancer and keep it from spreading to other parts of the body. Nonetheless, chemotherapy and radiation treatments are known to induce menopause, triggering symptoms like hot flashes immediately or throughout treatment. The patient also experiences a halt of menstruation and fertility, but these side effects are not permanent. If you don't wish to get pregnant at this time, Gyn LA advises you to keep applying birth control measures.
- Radiation TherapyRadiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high-energy x-rays or other types of radiation to kill cancer cells or keep them from growing. There are two types of radiation therapy. External radiation therapy uses a machine outside the body to focus the radiation in the direction of the cancer. Internal radiation therapy or brachytherapy uses a radioactive substance sealed in needles, seeds, wires, or catheters that are placed directly into or near the cancer. The way the radiation therapy is given depends on the type and stage of the cancer being treated.
- Minimally Invasive SurgeryLaparoscopic Surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery (also sometimes referred to as “pin hole surgery”), which results in better patient outcome and recovery. Dr. Mirhashemi and his team is world renown in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, providing the latest technologies in minimally invasive surgery to our patients. Dr. Mirhashemi has lectured, and performed live surgery, nationally and internationally in laparoscopic benign and malignant gynecologic conditions.
- Robotic SurgeryDr. Mirhashemi has developed techniques to perform this surgery through robotic laparoscopic techniques. As with any robotic surgery, the procedure is more accurate and less invasive. Patient recovery is 1 week with 4 small incisions that are barely visible. The procedure is also less painful.
- HysterectomyHysterectomy is one of the most commonly performed abdominal surgical procedures. The majority of patients referred to my practice for care of a gynecologic malignancy, pre-cancerous condition, or complicated benign pelvic problem will require a hysterectomy as part of a treatment plan.
- Endometrial AblationIf you are in Los Angeles and have menstrual bleeding problems, visit the Gyn LA clinic for treatment. Typically, our doctors will prescribe an intrauterine device (IUD) or medication to help alleviate your problematic periods. If these methods don’t work, endometrial ablation will be another option. In this article, we will explore the endometrial ablation process and the factors to consider, which include complications, side effects, and recovery period.
- LaparoscopyThe diagnostic hysteroscopy can also be used with other tests, such as the laparoscopy, or before a D & C (dilation and curettage). A laparoscopy involves your doctor using a slender tube that has a fiber-optic camera attached, called an endoscope, into your abdomen to see outside of your uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. An incision is made below or through your navel and used to insert the endoscope.
- Reconstructive SurgeryNon-surgical pelvic prolapse treatment can be 60 to 70% successful if the prolapse is identified early. These non-invasive pelvic prolapse repair modalities include Kegel exercises, biofeedback, and the use of pessaries. If pelvic reconstructive surgery is required, you can be assured that Dr. Mirhashemi will provide the best and most up-to-date pelvic prolapse treatment options for your particular case. Dr. Mirhashemi is trained in the field of urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery.
- BotoxAs we said earlier, surgery may not be necessary. However, if your doctor has determined that your PFD is as a result of rectal prolapse or rectocele, surgery could be mandatory. Your doctor uses a Defecating Proctogram Test to determine whether or not it’s these conditions that resulted in your PFD. Sometimes, your surgeon may inject you with Botox, which helps in the relaxation of pelvic floor muscles.
- Laparoscopic SurgeryMinimally invasive surgeries are becoming a preferred option for many patients in the country and around the world. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive technique used to treat laparoscopic benign and malignant gynecologic conditions. At GYN LA, our own Dr. Mirhashemi carries out Laparoscopic surgery to help patients recover faster and achieve better aesthetic results.

- EczemaOnce you have reached menopause, the next stage is post-menopause, during which a woman cannot get pregnant naturally. Women who wish to have a child at this point can turn to in- vitro fertilization (IVF), and this, too, is not guaranteed to get you pregnant or carry a pregnancy to full term due to a slew of complications. Once again, the spectrum of symptoms varies with every woman. Generally speaking, most women experience vaginal problems like dryness, and they may find sexual intercourse painful. The skin may change to become dryer, thus leaving you more prone to bruising and eczema.
- FungusThe real question is whether we are obligated to give a new friend or sexual partner a list of every virus, fungus and bacterium known to inhabit our bodies. Seems ridiculous doesn’t it? New sexual partners should be responsible and adult about a relationship. Condoms are a must. Your responsibility in any new sexual relationship is to make sure that both you and your partner practice “safe sex”. Insist that condoms are used the first time and every time. In my opinion neither you nor your partner are obligated to produce lists of every microorganism in your respective genital tracts!
- LesionsCarbon dioxide laser, which is the most commonly used in gynecological surgery, operates in two different mechanisms. One of the models uses a special microscope through which the laser beam destroys small lesions in your genital area. The laser beams cut through the tissues and layers depending on the desired treatment and outcome of the procedure. Laser surgery could be done in an outpatient setting since the operations are not invasive. However, it is essential to ensure that your surgery is done by highly qualified personnel. When operated by inexperienced clinicians, there could be an invasion of the carcinoma, resulting in detrimental effects.
- Physical TherapyPhysical therapy- Massage, stressing exercises, as well as other relaxation methods may relieve your pain. A physiotherapist can help you with the therapies and assist you in developing strategies that will make you cope with the pain. In particular cases, physical therapists target specific places of pain by using transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). This instrument generates electrical impulses to the nearby nerves. Also, physiotherapists may use biofeedback. Biofeedback helps to identify areas that have tight muscles so you can relax them.
