The Office of the State Bank Commissioner regulates state-chartered banks and trust companies, savings and loan firms, mortgage businesses, supervised lenders and money transmitters. It is responsible for the safety and soundness of state-chartered financial institutions. The office operates through various divisions, such as banking, consumer and mortgage lending and information systems. The Office of the State Bank Commissioner maintains a staff of attorneys, legal assistants, consumer relations officers, public service administrators and administrative specialists. The office has been accredited by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors since 1995. It is located in Topeka, Kan., and additionally provides employment opportunities.
