Thornton Police Department is headquartered in Thornton, Colo. The department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. It has administration, patrol and detective divisions. Its patrol division operates traffic, youth service, animal control and crisis negotiations units. Thornton Police Department conducts investigations, interviews witnesses, collects evidence and protects crime scenes. The department also arrests offenders and responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for service. It intervenes in the cases of accidents, murders, rapes, homicides, family violence and sexual assaults. In addition, it maintains and completes a range of records that includes reports, clearance letters, and search and arrest warrants. The department offers field training and Drug Abuse Resistance Education programs. Thornton Police Department also operates a police service dog and special weapons and tactics teams.
