General Info
Congregation Bnai Yeshurun, located in Teaneck, New Jersey, is an Orthodox synagogue of approximately 800 member and affiliate families that just recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. During that period, it has been the catalyst for the development of Teaneck as one of the premier Orthodox communities in the United States, with the full variety of local Jewish establishments as well as close to a dozen other shuls in our vicinity. We host multiple daily minyanim - both morning and evening - and six minyanim on Shabbat, and strive to conduct our tefilot in an atmosphere of decorum and sanctity. The participation of the membership - in both tefila and Talmud Torah - is desired and embraced. We have a Beis Medrash Committee that regularly - i.e., several times weekly - offers shiurim from a variety of Roshei Yeshiva and Rabbanim ; an Adult Education Committee that invites speakers from across the Jewish professional world ; a Chesed Committee that services the needs of anyone who requires assistance with meals, transportation and the like ; a Youth Director and Committee that oversee programming for the hundreds of CBY children ; a Bikur Cholim Society and Chevra Kadisha that perform those tasks with unswerving dedication ; a Mens Club and BNOT ( the womens' association ) that sponsor a range of social and fund-raising activities for the shul ; and the Chai Society that brings together the shul's seniors for social and spiritual enrichment. Just in the past year, the new TZVI ( Tz'erei Bnai Yeshurun ) Minyan has united dozens of young families in a Shabbat tefila, followed by a shiur ( sometimes a Kiddush too ) that facilitates the social assimilation of new families into our community. Bnai Yeshurun is a classic mega-shul - but in the variety of minyanim catering to different needs and personalities, we retain the small shul feel of closeness and camaraderie. I try to bring a passion and verve to my activities - whether through my shiurim, drashot or activism. We are extremely proud to be in the forefront of American shuls that have fought for the right of Jewish settlement throughout the land of Israel, and even prouder of the contributions we have made to Israel - Sifrei Torah donated to six different yeshivot ( in Yerushalayim, Hevron, the Golan, Elon Moreh and elsewhere ), children's parks, mobile gyms/shuls for the use of soldiers of the IDF, and a bus for the residents of Hevron. There are plaques adorning the walls of numerous institutions and places in Israel honoring our efforts, of all which have given us a share in the mitzva of Yishuv Eretz Yisrael.
