My son attended Horizon Charter School for 6 amazing years! When he began there, mid-year, the staff was so welcoming, easing both of our concerns about starting a new school. I was easily able to find ways to volunteer and be a part of my sons education. My son quickly made new friends, whom he still sees on a regular basis. The teaching staff does an amazing job, balancing the needs of the students and following state rules. It is easy to see why they are a consistently an A rated school.I truly believe it is because of Mrs. Thomley and her staff, that my son is currently excelling in high school and dual enrolled in college. He learned so much not only academically but also important life skills. He approaches challenges with school work and homework with ease because of the study skills he learned. He can easily solve problems with peers because of the problem-solving skills he was taught. As he looks for volunteer opportunities, he easily understands that the rules he must follow are there for a reason. He also knows if the reason is not apparent, it is ok to politely ask. My son is turning into a confident, intelligent, and well-rounded young man and I truly believe that Horizon Charter School played an integral part in his development. I do wish that they had moved to their new building before my son graduated. The new facility is amazing! We have been back several times to visit with the staff. They have a huge playground and a garden that the students can tend. The cafeteria is quite large with a choices for lunch. Our favorite room though is always the library.

This is the worst school I have ever dealt with. The class rooms are old and nasty, the lighting is horrible. Ms. Thomley lectures you about how to raise your child and talks down to you as if you are one of her children. Ms. Thomley fails to recognize that her bad attitude creates an intolerable atmosphere.
Tampa Charter School has been a waste of my time for many years now.Every time I go in the school i feel like I'm about to vomit. The rooms smell bad,the tiles are cracked up,the walls are chipped, and the bathrooms are so nasty that my son has told me of them closing stalls in the stink bomb. They are very cheap that they can't even buy FCAT breakfast for the kids. The area for their "recess" is just a parking lot closed by a 3 foot tall fence.Any kid could hop that with ease,or even worse,a person could walk right up there and kidnap them on the spot. The teachers at this school seem to not care about the kids and constantly yell at them. That does not include any girls of course...I have heard constant complaints by my son about the teacher's favoritism.I also believe that having K-8 grade all at one school is the worst idea ever. They must not know what kids nowadays do.Also the students here are constantly speaking foul language that the teachers and workers do nothing about.TCS is out.
