• Guardianship
  Jennifer primarily focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning and estate administration. Her estate planning work involves counseling clients through the planning process regarding the management of their assets after their passing so their intentions are carried out and their loved ones are cared for once they have passed. This process often involves the drafting of various key documents such as a last will and testament, powers of attorney, advance directives and trusts. In her estate administration work, Jennifer assists and guides the executors of estates to successfully complete the probate process so estates may be properly assessed, taxed and distributed. Jennifer is also regularly involved in estate litigation, including will contests and guardianship proceedings, and appears frequently before the Orphans’ Court of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.

  We have experience in preparing shareholder agreements for corporations, operating agreements for limited liability companies and partnership agreements for both limited and general partnerships. These agreements are important and necessary to permit the orderly transition of control of businesses and to provide reasonable buyout terms when disputes arise.
• Business Disputes
  Our Business Group represents a broad range of clients in numerous business law and commercial matters. Our lawyers are knowledgeable in the various aspects of residential and commercial loan transactions and documentation, and represent a number of financial institutions such as local banks and thrifts, in this regard. We prepare and review notes, mortgages, security agreements, stock pledge agreements, guaranty and suretyship agreements for both lenders and borrowers. We deal with commercial letters of credit, both as security instruments for various transactions (health maintenance capitation agreements, security for loans on an individual and participatory basis, as back-up to guaranty agreements, etc.) and as used in local and international sales transactions.

  In addition Mr. Mattioni is a Proctor-in-Admiralty with practical knowledge and experience in litigating admiralty and maritime matters. He is a former mariner, and earned his Chief Officer’s license. He served in the North Atlantic trades, transporting vehicles and general cargoes. His maritime litigation experience encompasses all areas, including ship conversion disputes in arbitration, business and commercial transactions, cargo and in defense of personal injury claims.

  We know how to form new business entities. This includes formation of corporations, limited liability companies, limited partnerships, limited liability partnerships and other entities. Our attorneys work closely with business owners to understand their special needs and counsel them regarding the best form of entity in which to operate.

  A wrongful termination claim brought by an engineer at a nuclear power facility who was fired for listening to a Philadelphia Phillies’ playoff game while at work.
• Employment Discrimination
  Our Employment Group is well qualified by training and experience to address such issues. Our attorneys represent employers and claimants in employment discrimination and civil rights cases, and in labor matters, in the courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and in administrative proceedings. We have handled discrimination claims based on race, age, gender, disability, and religion. We also have experience with employment matters involving sexual harassment claims, wrongful termination and retaliation claims, ERISA benefits claims, whistle blower law violations, wage and hour statutes, the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

  Mr. Mattioni concentrates his practice on Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and workers’ compensation claims, general litigation, employment claims, and various admiralty and maritime matters. His maritime practice involves investigation of casualties, and the handling of claims for pier damage, collision, pollution, and personal injury and death.

  In recent years Mr. Mattioni has represented small and large businesses and individuals in many employment related claims, including discrimination claims based on race, national origin, gender, and age, as well as claims for sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and violations of the Wage Payment and Collection Law. He successfully represented a regional health insurer in an ERISA/gender discrimination case which was tried in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He has served as counsel to a municipality and handled all of its employment related claims, including those under the Family Medical Leave Act, and those for discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and related issues. Mr. Mattioni also provides counseling to individuals and companies with regard to employee terminations and severance.

  There are many ports and terminals along the Delaware River which receive ocean going vessels transporting cargo to and from the United States. The Admiralty and Maritime Group has extensive experience in representing the parties involved in these movements, including vessel owners and charterers, cargo shippers and receivers, stevedores and terminal operators, and towing companies and suppliers of necessaries, as well as their insurers. We have provided counseling and litigation support to these interests for claims involving personal injury and death, cargo loss and damage, collisions and allisions, pollution incidents, salvage and general average, as well as charter party, freight, and payment disputes.

He has litigated numerous claims for occupational injury and disease, toxic poisoning, product liability, and medical malpractice.
