It has a team of officers that specializes in fire prevention and protection solutions. The department handles matters related to motor vehicle crashes, automatic fire alarms, and structure, outside and vehicle fires. The Sussex Fire Department also organizes training on search and rescue, firefighter safety, vehicle extrication, medical emergencies, bloodborne pathogen precautions and pump operations. The department conducts fire inspection programs. It has a fleet of ladder trucks and ambulances.
