- Primary CareYour artificial intraocular lens (IOL) implant options will be discussed with you (e.g. seeing well for far, distance and near with glasses, needing to wear reading glasses only, etc.). Your medical history including all your current mediations and dosages will be noted and discussed. A special date and time for your surgery will be scheduled as well as all of the necessary follow-up visits. In addition, you will be given medical clearance paperwork for your primary care physician to complete stating that you are medically stable to undergo minimally invasive cataract surgery under topical anesthesia with monitored anesthesia care.

- OphthalmologyThe use of amniotic membrane in medicine is not a new development. In fact, human placental membranes were first used in the early 1900s when they were used as skin substitutes. It was then first used in ophthalmology in 1940 when it was used to treat an ocular burn. It was not until the 1900s, when it became possible to more easily process and store it, making the technique popular again.
- Macular DegenerationMacular degeneration also referred to as age-related macular degeneration or AMD, is a common ocular health problem that affects the vision of millions of Americans. While it is most often diagnosed in patients over the age of 60, it can also affect patients who are significantly younger. Macular degeneration does not affect the peripheral vision or cause total blindness. However, it does negatively impact the central area of eyesight. This means that everyday activities such as reading, watching television, and even recognizing faces may prove more difficult than they should be.
- Laser Eye SurgeryPRK or photorefractive keratectomy is the earliest form of laser vision correction. Although it was established before LASIK and more recent techniques, it is still a popular and effective way of correcting a range of vision problems so patients have little to no reliance on prescription eyewear. While most patients are suitable candidates for LASIK and newer techniques, PRK is still a feasible eye surgery depending on your eye health and conditions.
- CataractsCataracts are a common visual condition and the leading cause of global blindness. Research estimates that around 90% of people will develop at least one cataract by the time they reach the age of 65. Cataracts occur when the natural lens of the eye experiences cellular changes that cause proteins to clump together, creating cloudy patches in your field of vision. Without treatment, these will get worse until your vision is significantly impaired. Cataract treatment involves surgical replacement of the natural lens of the eye with an artificial alternative, called an intraocular lens, or IOL. There are many types of IOL available, but few have as many benefits as TECNIS Synergy.
- Cataract SurgeryCataract surgery is currently the only truly successful way of treating cataracts. Cataracts occur when the natural lens of the eye starts to become cloudy over time. This is a result of cellular changes within the lens. Cataracts are progressive, and when patients find that their vision starts to become poor, they usually turn to cataract surgery to restore it.
- Eye ExamDo you often wake in the morning with eyelids that are swollen, itchy, and sore? Do your eyelashes feel clogged and sticky? If the answer to these questions is yes, you could be suffering from blepharitis. Before treatment, Dr. Adhoot will need to perform a basic eye exam to diagnose the condition.

- Diabetic RetinopathyDiabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of new blindness among adults in the United States. People with untreated diabetes are said to be 25 times more at risk for blindness than the general population. The longer a person has diabetes and hypertension, the more the risk of developing retinopathy increases. About 80% of the people who have had diabetes for at least 15 years have some blood vessel damage to their retina. People with Type I, or juvenile, diabetes are more likely to develop diabetic retinopathy at a younger age.
- UltrasoundOnce it has been determined that cataract surgery is necessary, you will need a follow up appointment to perform all the required preoperative measurements and scheduling. An A-scan test is performed with ultrasound and a new non-contact laser probe to accurately measure the length of your eye and the curvature of your cornea. These measurements and others are used to calculate the power of the new lens implant that will be used to restore your vision.
- General SurgeryDr. Ahdoot completed an internship in General Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center, an affiliate of Mount Sinai Medical Center. He then entered residency training in Ophthalmology at North Shore University hospital, an affiliate of New York University Medical Center and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, an affiliate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In his last year of Ophthalmology Residency Dr. Ahdoot was chosen to serve as a Chief Resident in the North Shore-LIJ Department of Ophthalmology. He then completed a Fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the acclaimed Mount Sinai Medical Center where he also received a coveted Fight for Sight Fellowship Grant for advancing research in vision and treatment of ocular diseases.
- Eyelid SurgeryDamage or injury to the structure of the eyelid. Patients who have suffered damage to their eyelid, or recently had eyelid surgery, may find that an inability to close their eyelids properly can cause a temporary bout of dry eyes as a result of increased exposure to the air.
- LesionsPterygium usually occurs near the center of the eye, on the side closest to the nose. When the condition affects both eyes, it is referred to as bilateral pterygium. These lesions are generally slow-growing and non-cancerous, and patients often experience no symptoms.
